March Harvest

Today was a very productive day. The students were really into their various jobs. I know this because not one student asked for a restroom pass.
We attempted to clean out our raised beds, but only got 2/3 of the way done. It took ten students from two different class periods. They reaped 3 wheelbarrows full of cabbage, lettuce, onions, chives, cilantro, radishes, and carrots. We ate most of the carrots and radishes. The rest we put up for grabs in the teacher's lounge for school staff.
Other groups worked in our greenhouse transplanting herbs that we started from cuttings five weeks ago. Still others cleaned up flower beds, trenched, mulched, and pruned. Our escarpment live oaks are semi-evergreen and are dropping their leaves now. The timing is perfect as we are about to spread our latest batch of compost in our Seedfolks garden.
With so many trees budding out and blooming, along with the riot of colors and smells, the kids really seemed to be caught up in this beautiful spring day.
